Baby Rainbow Sandals Crochet

Hello dear readers of the My Crafts Ideas blog, how are you? I hope you are all well. Today I brought a great idea for us to practice our crochet skills, a beautiful rainbow sandals pattern for our babies. I hope you like it and don’t forget to comment here on our blog.

I’ve affectionately named these adorable baby sandals “Rainbow Delight” due to the colorful Catania yarn I’ve used for my latest pair. However, feel free to craft them in a single solid color or experiment with a two-tone design.

These baby sandals measure approximately 10 cm (4 inches) in length, suitable for infants around 3 months old. I’ve employed Catania cotton yarn and a 3mm crochet hook, achieving a gauge of 6 single crochet stitches and 6 rows per inch (2.5 cm). I did crochet the sole a tad looser for comfort. While I haven’t personally tested the pattern for larger sizes, it’s likely adaptable by using thicker yarn, although I will update with details if I do explore that in the future.

These sandals are crafted in a single piece, and the only finishing touch required is attaching the buttons. If you come across any irregularities or have suggestions for enhancing the pattern, please don’t hesitate to share your feedback.

Round 2: 2 sc in the next stitch (mark the first of these 2 stitches and continue to mark the first stitch of each round as you work), 1 sc in each of the next 12 stitches, 2 sc in each of the next 3 stitches, 1 sc in each of the next 12 stitches to the end. (32 stitches)

Round 3: 1 sc in the next stitch, 3 sc in the next stitch, 1 sc in each of the next 12 stitches. [1 sc in the next stitch, 2 sc in the next stitch] three times, 1 sc in each of the next 12 stitches to the end. (37 stitches)

Round 5: 1 sc, [1 sc in the next stitch, 2 sc in the next stitch] three times, 1 sc in each of the next 12 stitches, [1 sc in each of the next 3 stitches, 2 sc in the next stitch] three times, 1 sc in each of the next 12 stitches to the end. (49 stitches)

Round 6: 1 sc, [2 sc in the next stitch, 1 sc in each of the next 2 stitches] three times, 1 stitch in each of the next 12 stitches, [1 sc in each of the next 4 stitches, 2 sc in the next stitch] three times, 1 sc in each of the next 12 stitches to the end. (55 stitches)

Rounds 7-10: Working in the back loop only, 1 sc around (55 stitches)

If you’re making two-color shoes, this is where you should change color.

Round 11: Still working in the back loop only, 1 sc in each of the next 26 stitches, [sc2tog, 1 sc in each of the next 6 stitches] twice, sc2tog, 1 sc in each of the next 11 stitches to the end (52 stitches)

Round 12: Working in both loops, 1 sc in each of the next 24 stitches, [sc2tog, 1 sc in the next stitch] six times, 1 sc in each of the next 10 stitches to the end. (46 stitches)

Round 13: 1 sc in each of the next 24 stitches, [dc2tog] six times, 1 sc in each of the next 10 stitches to the end. (40 stitches)

Round 14: Single crochet around (40 stitches)

Round 15 and Strap: 1 sc in each of the next 16 stitches (this is where to change color if you’re making the two-color version), 18 chains. 1 double crochet in the 3rd chain from the hook, 1 dc in each chain*, then 1 dc in each of the next 16 stitches. 18 chains and repeat from * to **. Fasten off, leaving a yarn tail to attach to the base of the last dc worked on the body of the shoe. Sew two buttons on each shoe.
