With the resurgence of Granny Squares in the crochet world, I found myself inspired to embark on a blanket project. However, I yearned for a unique twist, something beyond the traditional granny squares. That’s when I discovered the charming Circle Granny Squares!
Aren’t they absolutely adorable? I took a creative approach by opting for vibrant center colors that truly make them stand out. In fact, I even experimented with using different hues for each round of the circle. The result? A delightful burst of colors that adds an extra layer of appeal to these circle granny squares!
Circle granny squares share some similarities with their square counterparts but offer a unique circular structure. The construction is relatively straightforward, making them an excellent choice for beginners and experienced crocheters alike.

Tutorial
Round 1: Start by making 10 double crochets in the magic circle (mc), then slip stitch into the 1st double crochet. (Total: 10 stitches)
Round 2: Chain 3 (which counts as a double crochet), make 1 double crochet in the same stitch, then add 2 double crochets in each stitch around. Finally, slip stitch into the 1st stitch (the chain-3). (Total: 20 stitches)
Round 3: Chain 3, create 1 double crochet in the same stitch, then make 1 double crochet in the next stitch. Repeat the pattern of 2 double crochets in one stitch followed by 1 double crochet in the next stitch throughout the round. Finally, slip stitch into the 1st stitch. (Total: 30 stitches)
Round 4: Chain 3, double crochet in the same stitch, then make double crochets in the next 2 stitches. Continue with the pattern of 2 double crochets in one stitch followed by double crochets in the next 2 stitches around. Finally, slip stitch into the 1st stitch. (Total: 40 stitches)
Switch to white yarn.
Round 5: Chain 3, and in the same stitch, create (1 double crochet, chain 2, 2 double crochets). Proceed with double crochet, half double crochet, and single crochet in the next 5 stitches. Follow this pattern of (2 double crochets, chain 2, 2 double crochets) in the next stitch, then double crochet, half double crochet, and single crochet in the next 5 stitches. Repeat this pattern to three more times. Finally, slip stitch into the 1st stitch.
Round 6: Begin with a slip stitch, then insert your hook into the chain-2 space, chain 3, and create (1 double crochet, chain 2, 2 double crochets) in the chain-2 space. Proceed with a double crochet in each stitch until you reach the next chain-2 space. In that space, repeat the pattern of (2 double crochets, chain 2, 2 double crochets). Continue with double crochets in each stitch until you reach the next chain-2 space. Repeat this pattern to two more times. Finally, slip stitch into the 1st stitch.
You can choose to repeat Round 6 as many times as you desire. I decided to stop after completing Round 6.
Now, cut the yarn and weave in the ends to complete your project.
