    Solid Squares

👉 You will also need 12 solid squares to complete the blanket. Find the link to the solid square pattern on our site.

    For the blanket layout:

    • 13 Bear Squares

    • 12 Solid Squares

Arrange them in alternating order (5 squares across by 5 squares down).

    Joining Your Squares

There are many ways to join crochet squares—whip stitch, slip stitch join, or join-as-you-go. For this blanket, we recommend a method that keeps the seams flat and neat, so the blanket lies smoothly.

    1. Arrange your squares in 5 rows of 5.

    2. Join them first into rows, then join the rows together.

    3. Make sure the bear motifs are facing the correct direction as you join.

    Border Instructions

Once your squares are joined, finish the blanket with a 7-round border for a polished look.

    Using Color B:

    Round 1:
(3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc) in corner sp, 1 dc in each st across to next corner sp, working 1 dc2tog across each seam (joining ch2 spaces); rep from * to * around; sl st to first dc to join.

    Round 2:
Sl st to corner sp, (3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc) in corner, sk next 2 sts, V-st in next st; rep around; sl st to join.

    Round 3:
Sl st to corner sp, (3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc) in corner, ch 1, 3 dc in each V-st, ch 1; rep around; sl st to join.

    Round 4:
Sl st to corner sp, (3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc) in corner, ch 1, 3 dc in next ch-1 sp, ch 1; rep around; sl st to join.
    Fasten off Color B.

    Switch to Color A:

Round 5: Repeat Round 4. Fasten off.

    Switch back to Color B:

    Round 6: Repeat Round 4.

Round 7: Sl st to corner sp, (ch 3, dc in next ch-1 sp, 5 dc around post of last dc made, sc in next ch-1 sp) 19 times to next corner, ch 4, sc in corner; rep around; sl st to top of ch 3 to join.

Fasten off and weave in all ends.
