ch = chain
sc = single crochet
dc = double crochet
tr = treble crochet
sl st = slip stitch
sp = space
sk = skip
st(s) = stitch(es)
pc = popcorn stitch (5 dc in same st, drop loop, insert hook in first dc, pull dropped loop through, ch 1 to close)
The Motif Pattern
Start: Ch 8, sl st to form a ring.
Round 1: Ch 3 (counts as dc), 3 dc in ring, ch 3, 4 dc in ring. Repeat 3 more times. Join with sl st in top of ch-3.
Round 2: Sl st to next dc, ch 3, (2 dc, ch 3, 3 dc) in same sp, ch 1, 3 dc in next sp, ch 1, (3 dc, ch 3, 3 dc) in next corner. Repeat around, join.
Round 3: Work (3 dc, ch 3, 3 dc) in each corner sp, and (3 dc, ch 1, 3 dc) in each side sp.
Round 4: Begin popcorn round. In each side sp: (pc, ch 3, pc). In each corner: (pc, ch 5, pc). Join.
Rounds 5–7: Continue alternating dc clusters and popcorn stitches as shown in the diagram. Keep corners as (dc, ch 5, dc).
➡ Each motif measures approx. 16.5 cm.
Joining the Motifs
Work 12 motifs (3 x 4 layout). Join them together on the final round using sc or whip stitch in corresponding stitches.
Border
Round 1: Work groups of 12 dc separated by ch-1 evenly around. Adjust stitch count for balance.
Round 2+: Crochet fan shells: 7 dc in ch-1 sp, sk 2 sts, sc in next st. In corners, make 9 dc instead of 7.
Finished Size
With 12 motifs, your project will measure approx. 54.5 cm x 70 cm. You can expand by adding more motifs to reach your preferred size.
